Are you tired of rummaging through index card boxes and file folders filled with recipes? Do you struggle to digitize your collection due to double-sided index cards? Look no further. iPhone Shortcuts offers a simple solution to streamline your recipe organization.
The Problem
Many of us have inherited or accumulated recipe collections on index cards, with notes and instructions scribbled on both sides. Scanning or taking single pictures of these cards can be tedious and often results in incomplete captures.
The Solution
Create a custom iPhone Shortcut to combine photos of both sides of the index card into a single image.
Setting Up the Shortcut
- Open the Shortcuts app and create a new shortcut.
- Add the “Select Photos” action and enable multiple selections.
- Add the “Combine Photos” action and set it to vertical.
- Add the “Save Photos” action and choose your desired album

Using the Shortcut
- Take pictures of both sides of the index card.
- Open the Shortcuts app and run your custom shortcut.
- Select the photos of the index card.
- The shortcut will stitch the images together vertically and save the combined photo to your chosen album.
Benefits
- Simplify your recipe collection by digitizing index cards.
- Easily share recipes with family and friends.
- Organize your recipes into separate albums for quick access.
Additional Tips
- Add a “Rename Photos” action to include the recipe name in the file name.
- Use the “Share” action to send combined photos to others.
- Create separate albums for different recipe categories.
Beyond Recipes
This shortcut can also be applied to:
- Documenting receipts or invoices
- Scanning multi-page documents
- Creating a digital archive of artwork or sketches
